S&W was proud to be a sponsor Bent But Not Broken, a conference amplifying the music of Black composers this past April held in Wilmington, Delaware. Choral directors from around the country, as well as the leadership of both Chorus America and the American Choral Directors Association, gathered at a conference to attend workshops and interest sessions led by the nation’s most knowledgeable scholars of music and history. S&W Senior Consultant, Jane Kamp, participated on a panel with Delaware funders to share insights about the philanthropic landscape and how arts organizations, particularly those in the Black and brown community, could best position themselves when applying for competitive grants. Attendees then witnessed what philanthropy makes possible with the performance by Exigence, a Sphinx vocal ensemble highlighting artistry in the Black and Latinx community as they performed “The Seven Last Words of the Unarmed” by Joel Thompson and other works.
