The Challenge
Wilmington Friends School sought to maintain momentum after a successful campaign while preparing for a new, ambitious $15 million capital campaign to support its strategic goals. The school was also navigating a transition toward a more institutional advancement-focused development model, which required refining staffing roles and strategies to support continued fundraising success. Additionally, WFS was focused on expanding its donor base and fostering stronger community engagement to support its goals.
The Solution
S&W worked closely with WFS leadership to provide comprehensive development counsel, focusing on both short-term and long-term fundraising goals. S&W’s involvement included conducting a detailed Campaign Planning Study in 2017 to assess the school’s readiness for the proposed capital campaign. From there, S&W provided campaign counsel over several years, offering strategies for Lower School renovations, endowment growth, and reinvigorating the Annual Fund.
As part of our StaffSolutions services, S&W helped WFS refine its staffing roles to better support the transition to an institutional advancement model. This involved recruiting and training for key leadership positions, such as the Major Gifts Officer. Additionally, S&W supported the Development Office in expanding the Annual Fund, cultivating planned gifts, and securing leadership gifts.
By aligning strategic counsel with staffing support, Schultz & Williams helped WFS build a sustainable, dynamic fundraising infrastructure that positioned the school for success in its ambitious campaign and beyond.
