Michael Butler

Senior Consultant / Writer

Overview

Mike brings more than 30 years of experience to his work in developing compelling donor communications for a range of nonprofits. His experience includes planning and writing case statements and related materials for many fundraising campaigns, from billion-dollar comprehensive campaigns for Rutgers University and City of Hope Cancer Center to much smaller efforts for organizations with new and growing development programs. Mike has worked with organizations in every major sector of the nonprofit world: education, arts and culture, science and healthcare, conservation and the environment, and social services.

Background

Along with developing content for varied projects, Mike has conducted focus group research, helped shape messaging strategies, and collaborated with designers to shape creative concepts and with fundraisers to ensure strong alignment between campaign strategies and communications approaches. Make has helped many organizations translate their stories of mission and impact—and their plans and funding priorities—into terms that speak powerfully to donors.

Before joining Schultz & Williams, Mike worked as an independent writer and, prior to that, as a senior writer and project manager at Kelsh Wilson Design, a firm specializing in print and digital creative communications for nonprofits. He began his career at Drexel University, gaining exposure to a broad range of communications challenges, from media relations and speech writing to annual reports, magazine features, fundraising solicitations, and video scripts.
